Lyon goalkeeper Rémy Descamps confirms West Bromwich Albion and Hull City winter interest
Backup goalkeeper to Dominik Greif (29) at Olympique Lyonnais, Rémy Descamps (30) has confirmed that he was approached by West Bromwich Albion and Hull City during the 2025-26 winter transfer window.
“It didn’t happen because I decided otherwise. I wanted to build on the momentum from last season, which had got off to a great start,” the French goalie explained in an interview with Le Progrès. “The manager then gave me the chance to play in the Europa League when I returned. That allowed me to reach around ten appearances by the winter break. I wanted to keep going; the Coupe de France was coming up… There were a lot of matches, and I didn’t want to let it go.”
Having started the season as first-choice goalkeeper, Descamps eventually saw his rival take his place following a hand injury sustained in mid-September. Returning to action two months later, the Marcq-en-Barœul native went on to make nine appearances – including four in the Europa League – as second-choice goalkeeper.
A year on, with the winter transfer window already looming on the horizon, Descamps – who has made two appearances for OL this season – is keeping all his options open regarding the next step in his career.
“This year could be much the same; you have to stay positive and make the most of every opportunity. That said, if an interesting opportunity comes along, of course I’ll give it some thought,” he added.
