Official | Bruno Genesio appointed Marseille manager
Bruno Genesio has been appointed the manager of Olympique de Marseille. It comes after Habib Beye was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.
Genesio left Lille OSC at the end of the season, despite leading the club back into the UEFA Champions League. The Frenchman’s contract was up at the end of the season. There had been previous reports of tension between him and club president Olivier Létang, and when asked about his future with LOSC, Genesio had struck a negative tone, stating that there were no signs of an extension.
However, despite his exit from Les Dogues, he hasn’t remained out of the game for long. When Beye replaced Roberto De Zerbi in February, he was set the objective of qualifying for the Champions League and reaching the semi-finals of the Coupe de France. He failed on both accounts and that has cost him his job.
Genesio has taken his place. The former Olympique Lyonnais manager reacted to his nomination: “I chose Marseille because I was seduced by the challenge that was presented to me. OM is a unique club, with exceptional history, a strong identity, and with fans whose passion is known well beyond our borders.”
The length of the Frenchman’s deal at the Vélodrome has not been revealed, although reports suggest that his contract will run until 2028.
