Liverpool confirm the arrival of Jérémy Jacquet from Rennes
Liverpool have officially confirmed the arrival of Jérémy Jacquet (21) from Stade Rennais via official club communication channels. The Reds reached an agreement with Rennes during the winter transfer window worth €60m, which would see him arrive at Anfield when the summer transfer window opened.
The Premier League club defeated its divisional rivals, Chelsea, to secure his services. Hoping to further his development, Liverpool agreed that it would be best for the defender if he gained more experience playing for his formative club in Ligue 1. However, shortly after his move to England was confirmed, he suffered a nasty shoulder injury which required surgery and kept him out of action for the rest of the season.
Jacquet to start alongside Virgil Van Dijk?
During his official unveiling, the French centre-back was asked about the opportunity to play alongside the Liverpool captain, and it is one that he is ready to relish. In response to the question, he said, “Of course, I’m really excited to line up alongside a great player like him. I think he’s up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him.”
