Hansi Flick explains choosing Livaković over Szczęsny for Barcelona vs Sevilla
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an explanation for his decision to field Dominik Livaković over Wojciech Szczęsny from the off in the club’s latest outing.
Barcelona are of course currently locked in action on the domestic front. Eyeing a seventh win from seven to open the defence of their La Liga title, the Blaugrana have made the trip to The Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, to lock horns with Sevilla.
The visitors headed into proceedings sans the services of star goalkeeper Joan García, ruled out owing to an injury suffered against Racing Santander in midweek.
After Wojciech Szczęsny was introduced off the bench versus Racing, the widespread expectation was that the experienced Pole would be in from the off in Sevilla on Saturday.
Upon Barcelona’s starting line-up being announced, however, it was summer signing Dominik Livaković who featured between the posts.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off, Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on his goalkeeper call for the evening. And the German tactician went on to explain:
“Livaković over Szczesny? We analysed everything, and we decided that we needed a change in the goalkeeper position. And that’s what we did.”
