Newcastle reach €28m agreement for Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen

Newcastle United and Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims have reached a €28.5m agreement over the transfer of France youth goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen (20), according to Canal+. The 20-year-old was a sought-after prospect. He reportedly visited Chelsea FC’s facilities and Real Madrid once identified him as Thibaut Courtois’ long-term successor, but the next of his career will take him to Tyneside. The former Guingamp goalkeeper reportedly agreed to a four-year deal.

Jaouen impressed while on loan at USL Dunkerque during the 2024-2025 campaign, almost leading the club to promotion from Ligue 2 and also taking the Northern club to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France. He returned to parent club Reims last summer, following Les Stadistes’ relegation from Ligue 1.

He has been the No.1 throughout the season for Reims, however, the club have not managed to return to France’s top-flight at the first time of asking. Newcastle were in the market for a young goalkeeper, with Nick Pope having turned 34 in April. The Magpies also parted ways with Aaron Ramsdale recently.
