La Liga outfit Valencia have on Sunday announced a pair of important departures from the club’s first-team department. This comes fresh off nothing short of a dismal opening to the new campaign on the part of Los Che.

Valencia took to the pitch for the latest occasion on Friday, making the trip to Sevilla for a league clash. When all was said and done, Carlos Corberán’s troops were put to the sword by a goal to nil.

This marked a fourth successive defeat, leaving Valencia bottom of the Spanish top-flight table with just a point to show for their efforts this term.

On Sunday, drastic action has in turn been taken by Peter Lim and his board.

As per a statement across Los Che’s website and social media platforms, manager Corberán and his staff have been sent on their way with immediate effect.

Not only that, but CEO Ron Gourlay and his team of directors have also been dismissed:

‘Valencia CF announces that it has decided to terminate its contractual relationship with the CEO of Football, Ron Gourlay, as well as with the members of his team, Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora and Malek Shafei.

‘The decision is part of the Club’s desire to begin a new phase in its sporting structure and management of the football area.

‘Valencia CF would like to thank Ron Gourlay for the work he did during his time at the club.

‘Furthermore, Valencia CF has terminated the existing contract with Carlos Corberán and his first-team coaching staff.

‘Carlos Corberán arrived at Valencia CF in December 2024 with the aim of leading the sporting project in a complex situation that he was able to reverse, and he has performed his duties with professionalism, passion and maximum commitment throughout 72 official matches. 

‘The Club thanks the coach and all members of his coaching staff for their performance during their time leading the team.

‘The Club will soon announce the new structure of the football area and the configuration of the next sporting project.

‘On a provisional basis, Óscar Sánchez, coach of VCF Mestalla, will take charge of the first team.

‘The Club wants to convey a message of stability and confidence in the future, reaffirming its commitment to building a solid, competitive and sustainable sporting project.’
