Morgan Rogers open to departing England in summer transfer
Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers is reportedly open to moving abroad in the summer transfer window amid his links with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and PSG.
According to a report by talkSPORT, Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United are also keen on signing the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window. However, the 23-year-old is open to leaving the Premier League this summer, with the West Midlands outfit likely to demand over £80 million to part ways with him.
How has Morgan Rogers fared at Aston Villa?
Morgan Rogers has become a household name since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in a deal worth £15 million, including add-ons, in February 2024. The Englishman did not take long to establish himself as a pivotal figure for the West Midlands club, and his exploits have helped him become a regular for England.
The 23-year-old has been solid this season, even though his output has reduced in recent weeks. Rogers has scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in 48 outings thus far. Meanwhile, the English playmaker’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and PSG.
A man in demand
It is unclear why Arsenal will dip into the market for a central attacking midfielder this summer. The North London outfit signed Eberechi Eze last summer, while Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz reprise the same role. However, the report has suggested that Arsenal will sign Rogers to play on the left wing. While the Gunners need an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli on that flank, the Aston Villa playmaker is primarily a central attacking midfielder.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Morgan Rogers makes sense. While the Blues bolstered their offensive unit last summer, Enzo Fernandez faces an uncertain future after his recent comments landed him in trouble. While Rogers will not be a like-for-like replacement for the Argentine international, Chelsea’s output in the final third will exponentially increase, which they require urgently.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are combing the market for a versatile attacker. While Bruno Fernandes occupies Rogers’s primary position, the Englishman’s ability to play on the flanks makes him an appealing target for Manchester United as they prepare to play in four competitions in the 2025/26 season.
However, it is unclear why PSG will dip into the market for a playmaker like Rogers this summer, unless they sell at least one attacker or a midfielder. The 23-year-old Englishman can become an asset for Les Parisiens if they make room for him in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s asking price of around £80 million is high. However, Rogers has the potential to live up to the valuation in the coming years, although it is unclear if Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, and Manchester United are ready to break the bank to sign the English international this summer.
