Marcos Senesi agrees to join Tottenham, deal depends on two factors

Tottenham are leading the race to sign Marcos Senesi, although a deal for the Argentine defender will depend on two key factors.

Marcos Senesi is set to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, as Tottenham have positioned themselves in the lead. As per TEAMtalk, any move for the Argentine defender to North London will depend on two key factors, including the impending interest from another footballing giant.

Marcos Senesi’s availability on a free transfer did attract a lot of attention from some of the more established clubs in the Premier League and abroad. Having decided not to renew with Bournemouth, the Argentine defender was prioritising an important contract at his next club as well as a key role wherever he plays next.

He had reportedly rejected an offer from Juventus, with the main reason for the decision being the finances. Teams like Liverpool and Chelsea had also considered him, but the presence of established left-footed defenders at either of those teams may have seen Senesi prioritise other destinations.

Tottenham are currently leading the race for Senesi, having held advanced talks with the defender’s camp over the last few days. A move to Spurs makes sense for the 28-year-old Argentine, given there are rumours of Micky van de Ven’s departure in the summer, which would make the Bournemouth star his direct replacement.

However, any move to Tottenham will depend on two key factors, with the primary one hanging around Tottenham’s Premier League status. Spurs are currently battling relegation, and there is a realistic chance they could go down if performances do not improve. Should that happen, Senesi will sign elsewhere, as he is currently non-committal to the north Londoners despite showing an interest in joining them.

Is Barcelona’s interest a big factor?

The second significant factor in the Senesi-Tottenham saga revolves around Barcelona’s interest in the defender. The Catalans view the Argentine as a big target to improve their defence, but there are suggestions they might be worried because of Premier League interest.

Senesi might wait on Barcelona to make their decision on the pursuit, although the Catalan giants are already chasing Alessandro Bastoni. Should the Italian international arrive, there’s a chance Senesi might not prefer a switch to Camp Nou, as he may not want to play second fiddle to the Inter Milan star, which will give Spurs hope, with only relegation standing in their way.
