Predicted Liverpool lineup against Galatasaray: Salah, Konate to return; Ekitike up front

Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah will return to the Liverpool starting lineup when they welcome Galatasaray to Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool will be eager to overturn a one-goal deficit and secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals when they host Galatasaray at Anfield for the round of 16 second leg on Wednesday night. Arne Slot has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Ibrahima Konate is fit and available to take on Galatasaray after missing the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend due to a minor hamstring issue. Additionally, other players who received some rest in that game will return.

However, Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), Wataru Endo (ankle), and Alexander Isak (leg) remain in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided a fitness update on Konate.

The Liverpool head coach said, “Yeah, he is at this moment of time [ready to play]. The day after the game is recovery, if you play so many games with only two days of rest in between you cannot do a lot but he is declared completely fit, he doesn’t feel the discomfort anymore. So, then he is ready to start and hopefully fulfil 90 minutes or, if needed, even longer. But that’s what we have to find out tomorrow.”

However, it is unclear if Joe Gomez will be fit enough to be available for the game against Galatasaray. During his press conference, Slot also discussed the versatile English defender’s fitness issue.

The Liverpool boss said, “He wasn’t ready to train, he had too much issues after our last game, although he had these issues already after the Galatasaray game [and] wasn’t planned to play against Tottenham, but unfortunately Ibou got discomfort in his hamstring so we couldn’t take the risk of playing him. That’s why Joe had to play and that has built up so much that now he’s a bit of a doubt for tomorrow. But he’s going to try tomorrow, to see if he is available.”

Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Galatasaray on Wednesday. The backline will feature Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot, with Alexis Mac Allister reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Hugo Ekitike will lead the line for the home side against Galatasaray, with Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz completing the numbers in the offensive unit. So, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha will be among the backup options on the bench for the home side.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Salah, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Ekitike
