Anderlecht to stick with Jérémy Taravel as head coach

After weeks of uncertainty, it looks like Anderlecht have made a decision. As reported by HLN, interim head coach Jérémy Taravel will be staying on until the end of the season. It is hard to argue with the fact that performances and results have improved under Taravel. The side have been more free scoring and entertaining to watch. However, in order to be a head coach in Belgium, Taravel will need to start the process of obtaining his Pro Licence, which he plans to do in the coming weeks.

With Taravel in charge, the side have picked up eight points from a possible 12 in the Pro League and also made it back to the cup final for the second year in a row. There, they will face city rivals Union St Gilloise in the first all Brussels cup final.

For Anderlecht fans, there may well be some concerns that the side are repeating the mistake they made last season with David Hubert. After Brian Riemer was sacked, Hubert stepped in and steadied the ship. As a result, he was given the job on a permanent basis. However, as time went on, the side began to struggle again and Hubert was sacked. Taravel faces an arguably tougher test than Hubert did with the play-offs just around the corner. Anderlecht look set to finish in the top six, the harder of the two play-off routes. The side could really do with European football next season and pressure will be on the inexperienced head coach and the squad to deliver.
