Heracles set to appoint 29-year-old Head Coach from PSV U19s in bid to avoid relegation

Things are looking dire in Almelo. Heracles are currently languishing at the bottom of the Eredivisie and look set for a return to the Dutch second tier. The experiment with Ernest Faber is over, and in his place, the side are willing to take a gamble. According to VI, Heracles are hoping to appoint Vincent Heilmann as their new head coach. The catch is, Heilmann is only 29-years-old.

It certainly feels like a risk, but with the situation that Heracles are in, the gamble could be worth it. First of all, they need to get special approval by the Dutch Football Association to allow Heilmann to be appointed as first team head coach, given that he currently doesn’t have the correct coaching badges. However, he is in the process of getting them.

Heilmann has been pursuing a career as a player before injuries put an end to his chances. Since then, heh as focused on coaching and has been in charge of the PSV U19 team. It would certailnly be a big step up for Heilmann, but the reward for both club and head coach may outweigh the potential pitfalls. Even with relegation, Heilmann would likely be given full reign over the summer to build a squad capable of coming back up at the first attempt.
