Real Madrid recently submitted an enquiry to sign 28-year-old Brazilian international Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal, with the North London club rebuffing the approach.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Gabriel Magalhaes is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Arsenal mainstay has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.
The latest report has revealed that Real Madrid recently submitted an enquiry to sign the South American centre-back in the summer transfer window. However, Arsenal quickly rebuffed the approach, informing the Merengues that “there is no chance of prising him out of the Emirates” anytime soon.
How has Gabriel Magalhaes fared at Arsenal?
Gabriel Magalhaes has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Arsenal from LOSC Lille in September 2020. The 28-year-old was solid in his debut season with the North London club but has scaled new heights since pairing up with William Saliba at the heart of the defence, compelling many to label him an “aggressive leader” at the back.
The Brazilian international has made nearly 250 appearances for Arsenal thus far while chipping in with 24 goals and nine assists. Gabriel has also made his mark for Brazil and has grown in stature in international football, making 17 appearances for the Selecao. Meanwhile, his exploits for Arsenal have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Gabriel Magalhaes has been on Real Madrid’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30, with the duo also struggling with fitness issues in recent seasons. Additionally, Eder Militao has endured a horrific time in the last three years, suffering three season-ending injuries.
So, Real Madrid must invest in a centre-back, with several candidates, including Edmond Tapsoba, emerging on the club’s wishlist. However, Gabriel is also a viable target for Los Blancos, and they have submitted an enquiry for a possible move in the summer transfer window.
However, Arsenal quickly rebuffed Real Madrid’s approach, informing the Spanish giants that “there is no chance of prising him out of the Emirates” in the summer transfer window. So, Real Madrid must look elsewhere for a centre-back this summer, with the 28-year-old Brazilian international not going anywhere.
