Predicted Liverpool lineup against Nottingham Forest: Gomez to start; Ekitike in for Gakpo
Joe Gomez and Hugo Ekitike will return to the Liverpool starting lineup when they take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday.
Liverpool will be eager to continue the recent two-game winning run when they lock horns with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon. Arne Slot has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Joe Gomez is fully fit to start a game after his substitute appearances against Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion. However, Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring), Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), Wataru Endo (foot), and Alexander Isak (leg) remain in the treatment room.
Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided a fitness update on Gomez. The Dutch tactician also discussed the issues bothering Frimpong and Endo, ruling the duo out for the foreseeable future.
The Liverpool head coach said, “Jeremie will not be involved this weekend yet. We hope he will be involved next week [against West Ham United] if things go as planned. No, Wata will be out for a long time, as I said earlier. We don’t know exactly how long – but long.”
Meanwhile, Slot also discussed his team’s improved performances in set-piece situations. The Liverpool boss said, “I’m happy that you ask that question because it would be very unfair to Aaron [Briggs], who was partly responsible for that because, in the end, I’m responsible for everything. So, it’s always my end responsibility.”
“But we’ve been in that period of time so, so, so unlucky. We all knew that it couldn’t go on like that because we hardly gave away a chance in set-pieces but every ball went in, and we created multiple opportunities to score and the ball didn’t go in. So that things go back to normal now, it’s something which we expected.”
Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The backline will feature Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot, with Alexis Mac Allister reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Hugo Ekitike will lead the line for the away side against Nottingham Forest, with Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz completing the numbers in the offensive unit. So, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa will be among the backup options on the bench for the Reds.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Ekitike
