Newcastle United are keen to explore a move for Hugo Bueno from relegation-threatened Wolves in the summer.

According to Football Insider, Hugo Bueno has emerged on Newcastle United’s summer shortlist, with a new left-back seen as a priority. The Spaniard’s consistent performances for relegation-threatened Wolves have sparked interest from the Magpies, who are seeking cover or competition for Lewis Hall.

Newcastle United have adopted a steady approach to building their squad to optimal levels since the takeover of the club by Saudi Arabia. The Magpies have had to constantly manoeuvre through PSR obligations to get the best possible players without breaking the rules.

Hence, it is the case that they may not have managed to strengthen every position with sufficient cover, and that could be a target for the summer. The full-back roles are seen as a priority ahead of the next window, with the possibility of Tino Livramento leaving, while Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth are also expected to depart.

While a right-back is likely to arrive, alongwith the hope of keeping Livramento, Eddie Howe also wants quality cover or competition at left-back. Manchester United-linked Lewis Hall is not expected to be sold in the summer, as the manager feels he is very important to the team. However, Howe could seek cover for the position, as Wolves star Hugo Bueno emerges as a target.

Bueno was linked with Tottenham in January, when they suffered a setback in their pursuit of Andy Robertson, but it remains to be seen whether they return for the Spaniard. The 23-year-old wing-back could consider his options away from relegation-threatened Wolves, despite coming through the club’s youth sides.

Wolves are favourites for relegation, and while they would like to keep the Spaniard in a bid to boost their chances of an immediate promotion, the wing-back might choose to depart if a compelling offer arrives.

Bueno’s versatility, including his ability to play in central defence, adds to his appeal, and Howe could push the club to explore a move. With his contract expiring in 2028, Wolves could demand a reasonable price, but with the prospect of relegation, Newcastle United might be able to strike a bargain of sorts.
