Real Madrid, Manchester City vying for Wesley Franca

Real Madrid and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Brazilian international Wesley Franca from Serie A giants AS Roma this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Wesley Franca is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old AS Roma full-back has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.

However, the Spanish giants are not alone in the battle for the South American defender’s signature, as a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport has revealed that he is also a target for Manchester City. However, Real Madrid will attempt to secure Wesley’s signature in a deal worth €35 million in the summer transfer window.

How has Wesley Franca fared in Serie A?

Wesley Franca has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining AS Roma from Flamengo in a deal worth €25 million last summer. Born in Acailandia, the 22-year-old full-back spent his formative years in Brazil, starting his youth career at Atletico Tubarao before graduating from the fabled academy at Flamengo.

Wesley rose in prominence during his spell with Flamengo before AS Roma won the battle for his signature. The Brazilian has been exceptional this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 29 outings across all competitions for the Serie A giants. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester City and Real Madrid.

A man in demand

Manchester City wanted to sign Wesley Franca in the summer transfer window before AS Roma won the battle for his signature. The continued interest makes sense, as Rico Lewis has yet to win over Pep Guardiola and become the undisputed first-choice right-back. So, Guardiola has used Matheus Nunes, a midfielder, as his primary right-back. Wesley has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester City.

As for Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has become disgruntled due to a lack of involvement under Alvaro Arbeloa in recent weeks. So, a summer departure may be on the cards for the Spanish international, with several candidates, including Pedro Porro, emerging on Real Madrid’s wishlist.

The latest report has revealed that the Merengues are lining up a deal worth €35 million to sign Wesley from AS Roma in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can beat Manchester City to the 22-year-old Brazilian full-back’s signature.
