Tottenham considering summer move for Charlie Cresswell
Tottenham Hotspur may look to sign 23-year-old English defender Charlie Cresswell from Ligue 1 club Toulouse FC in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Charlie Cresswell is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Toulouse defender has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.
The latest report has suggested that while the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are relaxed on the futures of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Luka Vuskovic, they have kept their options open heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Englishman is one of four centre-backs on Tottenham’s wishlist.
How has Charlie Cresswell fared in Ligue 1?
Charlie Cresswell has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Ligue 1 since joining Toulouse from Leeds United in July 2024. The Preston native spent his formative years in England and graduated from the youth division at Leeds United. However, the 23-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell in France, as he hit the ground running at Stadium de Toulouse and made significant progress in the last 18 months.
The English defender has made over 50 appearances thus far for Toulouse while chipping in with seven goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Cresswell’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League outfits, in particular, have been keen on signing the youngster, with Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Charlie Cresswell is understandable. The Lilywhites are combing the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. While they are relaxed on the long-term futures of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Luka Vuskovic, they have kept their options open heading into the summer transfer window.
Additionally, Radu Dragusin’s long-term future is uncertain after he pushed for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the winter transfer window. Several candidates, including Murillo, have thus emerged on the North London club’s radar, with Cresswell also a viable target.
However, the 23-year-old Englishman is not the only centre-back on Tottenham’s wishlist, as they are also interested in Antonio Silva and Joel Ordonez. It will be interesting to see if the former Leeds United defender returns to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
