Crystal Palace unlikely to sack Oliver Glasner anytime soon

Crystal Palace won’t sack Oliver Glasner before the end of his contract, despite poor performances and growing discontent within the club.

Oliver Glasner has already confirmed that he will be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season when his contract runs out. While his departure is already certain, recent reports have suggested that he could be shown the door sooner.

With Palace struggling to get the desired results on the pitch and growing tension between the manager and board because of transfer decisions, Glasner’s future has become an interesting talking point. But it seems the Eagles don’t really have any intentions of sacking him before the end of the campaign, according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider.

Following their disappointing 1-1 draw against 10-man Nottingham, the Eagles have now gone 12 games across competitions without a win. Given how consistent they have been under Glasner, this is certainly surprising.

Apart from their poor performance, the manager isn’t really too pleased with the board. There are clear differences between the two parties, which were quite evident during the Marc Guehi transfer saga.

The manager was against his departure and made his feelings known publicly. It might have even played a part in his decision to end his stay at the club. With all this going on in the background and results not going their way, the pressure continues to mount on Glasner.

Pete O’Rourke on Glasner’s future

Reports suggest he could be sacked before his tenure ends. However, Pete O’Rourke has suggested that nothing of this sort will happen. Palace have no intentions of letting him leave before the end of the season.

While speaking about Glasner’s future, the transfer expert said: “I would be surprised if he was to be sacked before he leaves when his contract runs out, but you just never know. Obviously Palace are looking over their shoulders right now in that relegation battle.

“It was a big game against Nottingham Forest this week as well and a defeat there could have really dragged them in to trouble. Palace cleared the air with Glasner after his unhappiness over Marc Guehi being sold. Palace right now want to keep with Glasner. He’s had great success there.

“They’ve still got a chance of winning the Europa Conference League and obviously, Palace have been hit by a few injuries as well. Glasner has had great success at Palace. They feel he is the man to ensure they don’t get dragged into this relegation battle and they’ll be sticking by him.”

A defeat against Nottingham Forest could have made matters worse for Glasner. While the club are on the verge of being dragged into the relegation battle, they still want to back their manager. Given how successful he has been, they fully trust him to ensure they remain in the top flight.

Not only that, but with Glasner on their bench, they do have a chance of winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. Their recent form might not be positive, but it had a lot to do with all the drama around Guehi’s transfer and an injury crisis. As a result, the Eagles are still looking to back Glasner until the end.
