Crystal Palace closing in on signing Jorgen Strand Larsen as Leeds United set fee limit
Crystal Palace are closing in on a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen, with Leeds United maintaining their stance over the fee.
According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace are close to signing Jorgen Strand as a verbal agreement with Wolves inches closer. The Eagles have proposed a £45 million plus £5 million offer for the attacker, as Leeds United are maintaining their stance over an unwillingness to pay over the odds.
Crystal Palace could be set for a big action in the final days of the window as they are now closing in on a key signing. The Eagles are maneuvering their own situation with key man Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is the subject of a departure before the transfer deadline, as a new striker is seen as a paramount piece of business, which could see the Frenchman depart.
Palace are now closing in on a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen, having registered their interest in the striker a few days prior. Their chase accelerated, knowing Mateta would prefer a departure, and they have since accelerated talks with Wolves over Strand Larsen.
The South London side have communicated their desire to pay £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons for the striker, with Wolves expected to approve of a move. The formula could lead to a verbal agreement, soon to be followed by a written offer for the Premier League attacker.
Palace signing Strand Larsen could pave the way for Mateta’s departure, with the Eagles demanding £40 million for the Frenchman. There has been widespread interest in the France international; however, it is Nottingham Forest who have made an offer so far, while the others are seemingly out of contention, with the list including Aston Villa and Juventus.
Leeds United’s stance on Jorgen Strand Larsen
Leeds United failed with a bid for Strand Larsen, and despite Palace advancing in the race, they might still be at the table. The Elland Road outfit believes the Wolves striker would be open to joining them this month, but the team are not prepared to go over £40 million for the striker, as per Sky Sports.
Leeds United are under no pressure to sign a new striker as they have at least three choices in the position at the moment. Hence, they might not pursue another name if they miss out on Strand Larsen, which enables them to stay strong with their stance on the fee for the Wolves man. It remains to be seen whether there is a late twist in the chase for the Premier League attacker, as Palace look like the front-runners at the moment.
