Predicted Chelsea lineup against Napoli: Garnacho, Gusto to return; Palmer in contention
Alejandro Garnacho and Malo Gusto will return to the Chelsea starting lineup when they take on Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday.
Chelsea will be eager to secure a spot in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League standings when they lock horns with Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday night. Liam Rosenior has received positive updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
However, Filip Jorgensen (knock) and Cole Palmer (thigh) are in the travelling squad after recovering from their minor issues. However, Tosin Adarabioyo and Dario Essugo are recovering from hamstring injuries, while Levi Colwill is a long-term absentee due to a knee issue.
Additionally, Mykhailo Mudryk continues his suspension after failing a doping test several months ago. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Rosenior provided a fitness update on Romeo Lavia, who has not travelled to Naples this week despite stepping up his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Chelsea boss said, “Obviously, his [Lavia’s] recent history has not been what he’s wanted in terms of minutes on the pitch and his health. Romeo is an outstanding player and has the potential and ability to be a world-class midfield player when he’s back and if he stays fit. So we’re taking it really, really carefully with him.”
“He has to clear a few more hurdles to train fully, but it’s great to see him back with the players today. I know his qualities and I know what he can bring if we can keep him fit. I’m very excited to work with him.”
Robert Sanchez is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Chelsea lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Napoli on Wednesday. The backline will feature Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and Marc Cucurella.
As for the midfield unit, Reece James will pair up with Moises Caicedo in the double pivot, with Enzo Fernandez reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Joao Pedro will lead the line for the away side against Napoli, with Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho being the two wide attackers. So, Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian will be among the backup options on the bench for the Blues.

Predicted Chelsea XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; James, Caicedo; Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Garnacho; Joao Pedro
