Official | Augsburg take Hoffenheim defender Arthur Chaves on loan with €6m purchase option

Hoffenheim defender Arthur Chaves’s reported on loan out to Augsburg has been officially confirmed. The 24-year-old moves from Kraichgau to the Fuggerstadt on a six-month-long arrangement.

Kicker and all other major German footballing media outlets confirm the existence of a €6m purchase option as part of the deal. This happens to be the precise amount Hoffenheim paid to acquire Chaves from the Portuguese second division 18 months ago.

Statements on Chaves’ move

Due to the injury-related absences of Chrislain Matsima and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, it was clear to us that we needed to strengthen our defensive corps,” FCA sporting director Benni Weber noted in a club statement. “In Arthur Chaves, we are signing a strong central defender who fits our requirements very well and can play in all three positions in the back line. He knows the Bundesliga very well and can therefore help us immediately.

I’m very excited about the opportunity at FCA,” the player himself added. “My goal is to integrate into the team as quickly as possible. I want to take on responsibility both on and off the pitch and contribute to a successful second half of the season.
