Kobbie Mainoo set for Manchester United stay
Manchester United academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo will continue at Old Trafford despite exit links.
Kobbie Mainoo’s future has been a massive talking point for months. The English international was pushing for a move away, but a managerial change has resulted in a change of heart. Having been restored in the starting XI, Mainoo is now set to continue at Old Trafford, as per a report from the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old central midfielder has been a part of the United setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team at the start of 2023. He had a sensational rise under the leadership of Erik ten Hag, and in just over a year’s time, he ended up making his debut for the England national team.
While he was one of their mainstays under the Dutch manager, the arrival of Ruben Amorim had a massive impact on his career. He slowly went down the pecking order, and lack of game time frustrated him.
Mainoo won’t be leaving United
Mainoo was keen on leaving the club before the start of the 2025/26 season. But the Portuguese manager blocked his exit. However, he didn’t give him enough minutes throughout the first half. As a result, the 20-year-old was ready to push for a move away in the winter window.
Multiple top clubs have been linked with the English international, who is capable enough to feature in any role in midfield. While he was ready to leave his childhood club, a lot has changed in recent weeks as Amorim has been sacked.
Michael Carrick, who has taken charge as their caretaker, handed him his first league start of the season against rivals Manchester City in their derby win. The 20-year-old, who was pushing to join Napoli on loan, has now decided to stay at United after being restored in the team.
Carrick has assured the youngster that he is a part of his plans going forward and will be a regular feature in his XI if he maintains form. As a result, he has decided to continue at Old Trafford for now.
