Aston Villa make enquiry for Zavier Gozo

Aston Villa have reportedly enquired about Real Salt Lake City’s emerging forward Zavier Gozo as part of their January plans.

According to Matteo Moretto, Aston Villa have launched an enquiry for Real Salt Lake City forward Zavier Gozo. The 18-year-old MLS forward is proving to be an emerging star over in the United States, with the Premier League side now eager to snap him up early to further develop his talents.

There are many MLS-based players in the Premier League, but more often than not, those stars have arrived through different avenues rather than directly from the United States. In the case of Aston Villa, they recently found success in bringing in a player from the MLS, in the form of Jhon Duran, who was later sold on a massive profit to Saudi side Al-Nassr.

Now, the Birmingham giants are angling for another player from the league, as they have launched an enquiry for Real Salt Lake City’s teenage winger Zavier Gozo. The attacker has become a regular for the senior side, making 34 appearances for the first team and scoring four times so far.

Aston Villa were eager to strengthen their forward line as a new striker and a winger are high on their agenda. They were in talks for Gremio winger Alysson, and have signed him already in the window, which casts doubts about why they are seeking another right-sided attacker in the form of Gozo.

It may be the case that they could bring in the forward to aid his development in England to possibly integrate him into the first team plans in the future or sell him on a profit, like Duran. It’s quite unclear about their intentions, as Real Salt Lake City are in a strong position, given the 18-year-old MLS forward has a contract there until 2027, while the club has a two-year option on top of it.

Aston Villa to have a busy January?

While there’s no clarity on their seriousness regarding the Gozo move, Villa are set to have an active window to help them through their objectives for the season. The aforementioned wide position is something Unai Emery wanted to address, as they were linked with Brennan Johnson before he signed for Crystal Palace, while Omar Marmoush is another option being linked.

They are also keen to sign a striker to compete or cover Ollie Watkins in the second part of the season, with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia on their list. It remains to be seen whether they can get either of those names, as Villa are likely to bring at least another forward into the equation before the window shuts.
