Eintracht Frankfurt open talks to extend Mario Götze’s contract
Eintracht Frankfurt have opened talks to extend the contract of Mario Götze (33), according to a report from Bild.
The World Cup winner has started just three of his 11 Bundesliga appearances for Die Adler this season, but remains an influential member of Dino Toppmöller’s side, although he’s yet to register a goal contribution.
Speaking in September, Frankfurt’s No. 27 very much hinted of his desire to remain at the Hessen club beyond the summer: “If I could draw up my own contract, it wouldn’t end in the summer.”
With a reported base salary of €3.5m plus substantial bonuses, Bild note that the 33-year-old is one of Frankfurt’s highest earners, and a new contract would see a pay cut. Despite this, all signs are pointing towards a contract extension, with both Götze and Eintracht’s management sending ‘positive signals’ which indicate that a contract extension beyond the summer is likely, although it may be for just one year.
