Crystal Palace, Newcastle United vying for Youri Baas

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are reportedly both keen on signing 22-year-old Ajax defensive sensation Youri Baas.

Youri Baas’s impressive rise at Ajax has not gone unnoticed. The young defender finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are ready to battle it out for the Dutch defender.

Baas has come up the ranks at Ajax. The Dutchman got promoted to their first team at the start of 2023, and he has not looked back since. After an impressive loan spell at NEC Nijmegen, the youngster finally got an extended run in their senior side, and he has since established himself as a key figure in the team.

The Dutch centre-back has featured in 22 matches this term, and he has even bagged a goal. Baas has been a rock at the back, and he has even chipped in as a left-back at times. His performances and massive potential have resulted in a lot of interest.

Multiple top clubs from across Europe are closely monitoring Youri Baas ahead of the winter transfer window. His composure, exceptional positioning and ability to play out from the back have drawn widespread praise.

Premier League duo to battle for Baas

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are two English clubs that have taken note of Youri Baas’s performances, and they would love to add him to their ranks. With Marc Guehi’s departure almost certain, Baas could help Crystal Palace cope with his absence.

While the Eagles intend to keep the English international at the club until the end of the season, a massive offer could force them to cash in on him, with his contract running out. Meanwhile, the Magpies need to freshen things up at the back as the majority of their key defenders are on the wrong side of 30.

Baas could be a great acquisition for the long run, and can certainly help them out with their ongoing injury crisis. Ajax recently handed the 22-year-old a new deal that runs until 2028; as a result, they will have the upper hand in negotiations, and a potential transfer will cost in excess of €20 million.
