Manchester City, Bayern Munich make move for Josh Acheampong

Manchester City and Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing promising 19-year-old English youth international Josh Acheampong from Chelsea next year.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are interested in Josh Acheampong. The two European bigwigs are keen on reinforcing their defensive units by signing a versatile defender next year. So, the 19-year-old Chelsea wonderkid has emerged as a target for them.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich have registered their interest in Acheampong, and they are monitoring his progress closely at Chelsea. However, the Blues are unwilling to entertain any bids to part ways with the 19-year-old Englishman next year.

Who is Josh Acheampong?

Josh Acheampong is the latest promising wonderkid to emerge from Chelsea’s fabled academy. The Blues have had a factory of world-class prodigies, and the London-born defender has been impressive in his limited outings for the West London club. The 19-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough in the senior setup in the 2024/25 season, becoming an asset due to his ability to play across the backline.

The English youth international has made 25 appearances for Chelsea thus far, amassing over 1,500 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, Acheampong’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Manchester City wanted to sign Josh Acheampong in the summer transfer window, but the deal did not materialise. The continued interest makes sense, as Pep Guardiola is eager to land a new right-back. With Rico Lewis struggling to make his mark, Manchester City can do with an alternative, as Matheus Cunha has played as a makeshift right-back for several months.

As for Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back and a right-back amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Dayot Upamecano and Sacha Boey. The Chelsea wonderkid is thus an option worth considering, as he can be a solution for both positions.

However, while Bayern Munich and Manchester City have registered their interest in the 19-year-old Englishman, Chelsea will not entertain bids to part ways with him next year. So, it will be interesting to see if the two European bigwigs can turn the youngster’s head in the coming months.
