Milan Not Losing Hope for Maignan Despite New Links
Milan face an uphill battle to convince Maignan to renew his expiring contract, but they won’t give up without a fight. Their management and coach Massimiliano Allegri are trying to repair the relationship, which was hurt by a previous back-and-forth on the numbers, Alfredo Pedullà informs.
The gaffer was instrumental in convincing Adrien Rabiot to join, even though their pursuit looked difficult at first. The Rossoneri believe they still have a chance to persuade the goalie. For that reason, they aren’t furthering the contacts for other goalkeepers, even though they have been offered multiple ones.
According to Sky Sport Switzerland (via Goal), the latest name added to the Milan shortlist as a potential Maignan replacement is Alisson Becker. His deal with Liverpool is up in 2027. His side seems open to the possibility of selling him at the end of the season. He’s been making €5M annually. He joined the Reds from Roma back in 2018 in a €72.5M move.
Per Gianluigi Di Marzio, the Rossoneri are also evaluating Hugo Souza, who has a €12M valuation. He got his start at Flamengo, winning one Copa Libertadores, and briefly left Brazil for Chaves in 2023/2024. He headed back and joined Corinthians, with which he has made 87 appearances, allowing 81 goals and keeping 37 clean sheets. The shot-stopper debuted with La Seleçao in October.
Our Take on Milan, Maignan, and His Potential Heir
If the situation were really irreparable, he would have pushed more to leave last summer, as Theo Hernandez did. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stay, but it’s not over yet. While they have been linked to all sorts of options, they are more likely to go for a sure thing rather than a prospect or a gamble.
