Predicted Arsenal lineup against Chelsea: Hincapie in for Mosquera; Trossard a minor doubt
Piero Hincapie will replace Cristhian Mosquera in the Arsenal starting lineup when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Arsenal will aim to continue their incredible winning run and widen the gap at the top of the Premier League when they lock horns with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening. Mikel Arteta has received a mixed bag of updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Arteta is sweating over Leandro Trossard’s fitness after the Belgian international hobbled off with a minor calf issue. However, the experienced attacker should be fit and ready to take on Chelsea. Meanwhile, there is some more good news, as Martin Odegaard has made considerable progress on his recovery trail this week.
However, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Viktor Gyokeres remain in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Arteta provided fitness updates on the injured quartet and Trossard.
The Arsenal manager said, “Yeah, with Leo there’s another test today, we have to see how he’s feeling. It doesn’t look much, so we still have a few hours and we’ll have to see, it’s a potential chance (that he will be available). I think he (Gabriel Magalhaes) is evolving really, really well. We have to wait for the scan a little bit longer to be more precise in terms of the timings.”
“I’m quite confident, especially the way Gabi takes every injury and the way he’s going to push everybody that it’s not going to be that long. We have to see, obviously he (Gabriel Jesus) has been out 11 months and you need that progression, you need to see how his body reacts and what else he needs.”
“The players that we have available as well, it has to make sense to have the right balance in the squad, so it’s a good thing. He’s very, very close at the moment. Not yet, but they (Havertz and Gyokeres) are getting closer and closer, so we are very positive with both of them. The good thing is that now we find another option.”
David Raya is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Arsenal lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Chelsea on Sunday. The backline will feature Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Piero Hincapie, and Riccardo Calafiori, with Hincapie replacing Cristhian Mosquera as Saliba’s central defensive unit.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice in the double pivot. Eberechi Eze will reprise the no. 10 role, with Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka being the two wide attackers. Finally, Mikel Merino will lead the line for the away side against Chelsea. So, Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Martinelli will be backup options on the bench.

Predicted Chelsea XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Eze, Trossard; Merino
