Getafe vs Atletico Madrid: Preview and Prediction

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid will be looking for their fifth straight win in La Liga when they hit the road to square up against Getafe.

Getafe will be looking to return to winning ways when they resume their La Liga campaign with a home game against an in-form Atletico Madrid side at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.

The home team are eighth on the points table with 17 points in their 12 outings, thanks to five wins, two draws and five defeats. They have suffered three defeats in their last five outings. After a run of five league games without a win, Getafe won against Athletic Club and Girona before suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of RCD Mallorca prior to the international break.

The Azulones were far from their best and will certainly have to put up a much-improved performance to stand a chance against Simeone’s team. Meanwhile, the visitors have completely turned things around after a poor start to the season. They have climbed up to fourth on the table with 25 points in their 12 outings, thanks to seven wins, four draws and a defeat.

The Colchoneros have been unbeaten since their defeat on matchday one and are heading into this one on the back of four straight wins. They secured a 3-1 win over Levante in their last outing. It was a dominant display from Simeone’s team, and he will be hoping for something similar here. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at both teams and tries to predict the tactics they could put to use.

Team News & Tactics

Getafe

Fetafe will be without the services of Davinchi and Yvan Neyou when they take on Atletico Madrid this weekend. Apart from the duo, everyone else is expected to be available for the home side.

Getafe will stick with the 3-4-1-2 formation, where David Soria will be in goal. The back three will be made up of Djene Dakonam, Abdel Abqar, and Domingos Duarte. The trio will receive significant support from Juan Iglesias and Diego Rico, who will feature as the wing-backs.

As for the midfield unit, Luis Milla will pair up with Mauro Arambarri in the centre of the park. The duo will look to ensure the Atletico Madrid midfielders do not dominate the ball too deep in their half. Mario Martin will be the attacking midfielder behind the strike partnership of Borja Mayoral and Adrian Liso.

Probable Lineup (3-4-1-2): Soria; Dakonam, Abqar, Duarte; Iglesias, Milla, Arambarri, Rico; Martin; Liso, Mayoral

Atletico Madrid

Robin Le Normand remains on the sidelines for Atletico Madrid, while Giuliano Simeone and Jan Oblak are major doubts for this fixture against Getafe.

The away side will line up in a 4-4-2 formation, where Juan Musso could be in goal if Oblak is not fit enough. Marcos Llorente and Matteo Ruggeri should be the full-backs, while Jose Maria Gimenez should pair up with Clement Lenglet in the heart of the defence.

Nico Gonzalez and Alex Baena should feature out wide on the flanks, while Koke will partner with Pablo Barrios in the centre of the park. The duo will look to control the tempo of the game.

Despite being in red-hot form, Antoine Griezmann will once have to settle for a cameo off the bench as Simeone should stick with Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth in the final third.

Probable Lineup (4-4-2): Musso; Llorente, Gimenez, Lenglet, Ruggeri; Gonzalez, Koke, Barrios, Baena; Sorloth, Alvarez

The 25-year-old has established himself as the leader of the attack at Atletico Madrid since joining them from Manchester City in the summer of 2024. The Argentine international was one of their standout performers last season, and he has carried that form into the new campaign.

In his 15 outings across competitions, Alvarez has contributed towards 13 goals (9 goals, 4 assists). The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will be looking to add to his tally and will hope he can help his team extend their winning run.

Prediction

Getafe 0-3 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid head into the fixture against Getafe as clear favourites, with Diego Simeone’s men in sensational form and looking well-balanced across all departments. Their four-match winning streak reflects a team that has rediscovered its defensive solidity while carrying a constant threat in transition.

Getafe, meanwhile, have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks but remain inconsistent, particularly against the league’s top sides. Their struggles to create clear-cut chances, combined with defensive lapses, could prove costly against an Atletico Madrid side that punishes mistakes with ruthless efficiency. The Hard Tackle predicts an easy 3-0 win for the away team.
