Roma Not Thrilled with How Liverpool Loanee Is Faring
Kostas Tsimikas hasn’t managed to win over Gian Piero Gasperini early in his Roma spell, even though he had the opportunity to nab the starting job, as Angelino has missed extended time because of bronchitis.
The Greek international got some run in the Europa League, starting thrice in such a competition and commencing well. However, his ensuing performances weren’t great, including a costly blunder versus Lille. He has been an unused sub in four of the last six matches. The team has worked better with Wesley filling in on the left wing, Celik on the right, and Mario Hermoso completing the backline.
Roma aren’t yet at the point of seriously considering sending Tsimikas back to Liverpool early, but they surely aren’t regretting the fact that he joined them on a simple loan, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the veteran remains likely to see out the season in a secondary role, unless he’ll find a better opportunity elsewhere in January. The Giallorossi have started looking for a replacement. They have recently scouted Pisa’s Samuele Angori, although more for next summer. The 22-year-old was instrumental in the Nerazzurri’s return to Serie A. He has featured eight times in Serie A, providing two assists.
Our Take on Roma and Tsimikas
He’s been nothing special so far and paid the price for a gaffe. He’ll have to seize his opportunities to exit the coach’s doghouse, and the same goes for Angelino. However, Wesley, Celik, and Hermoso have been thriving, and there are two young center-backs waiting in the wings, so it’s a sustainable solution. Angori is fine, but isn’t a surefire starter. They probably would be able to sign him if they really wanted to.
