Aston Villa not planning January move for Julian Brandt

Aston Villa’s links to sign. Julian Brandt have been rubbished with suggestions that the playmaker plans to stay at Borussia Dortmund at least until the summer.

According to Bild via Sport Witness, Aston Villa are unlikely to make a move for Julian Brandt in the winter window. The 29-year-old Bundesliga playmaker is planning on staying in Germany at least until the end of the season, with Borussia Dortmund keen on keeping him beyond his current deal.

Julian Brandt has continued to prove his importance for Borussia Dortmund with some key performances. Four goals and two assists in 13 games so far this term have reiterated his status as a key star for the Bundesliga side.

Borussia Dortmund are eager to keep hold of Brandt, with his current deal expiring next summer. The club does not want to lose him on a free transfer next summer, and having already offered him a new deal as per the report, should the 29-year-old Bundesliga playmaker rebuff the proposal, the club might consider selling him in January.

There are some teams interested in signing Brandt, provided he would be made available on the cheap in January. However, the 29-year-old Bundesliga playmaker is eager to stay put in Germany at least until the summer, and is currently not ruling out extending his stay with Dortmund.

Aston Villa were linked lately with a move for Brandt, with suggestions that Unai Emery’s side will be eager to get him on the cheap in January. However, the playmaker is unlikely to be deterred in his current stance, which could see the Birmingham-based club move away from the chase, at least for the time being and probably revisit their interest next summer.

Aston Villa are keen on reinforcements

Emery is eager to bolster his attacking setup, as there are some additions the Spanish manager is banking upon. The need for a playmaker might have stemmed from reports insisting Liverpool might consider recalling Harvey Elliott from his loan at Villa Park, while there are considerable doubts about Emiliano Buendia’s immediate and long-term future at the club.

Apart from a playmaker or attacking midfielder signing, Emery is also eager to bring a wide player, with Real Betis’ Ez Abde linked with a move. Overall, Aston Villa will want to bring some key additions in January to bolster their chances of finishing in a higher place in the league as well as going deep into their Europa League campaign.
