Wolves keen on signing Kalvin Phillips, Dwight McNeil in January
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City misfit Kalvin Phillips and Everton winger Dwight McNeil in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Kalvin Phillips and Dwight McNeil are the subjects of interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Black Country outfit will dip into the market for a midfielder and an attacker to rescue the 2025/26 dreadful season. So, the Manchester City misfit and the Everton winger have emerged as targets for Wolves.
Kalvin Phillips has seen his progress come to a grinding halt since joining Manchester City from Leeds United in July 2022. The Englishman was among the best midfielders in the Premier League when he arrived at the Etihad. However, he has barely featured for Manchester City, while loan spells with West Ham United and Ipswich Town failed to revive his career.
Phillips is back at Manchester City after an underwhelming loan spell with Ipswich Town, and he has managed only seven minutes of game time thus far in the 2025/26 season. So, a winter move away from Manchester City should be on the cards for the 29-year-old. On the other hand, Dwight McNeil has fallen in the pecking order at Everton this season.
The 25-year-old was impressive after joining Everton from Burnley in July 2022. However, with Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish ahead of McNeil in the pecking order, the English winger has managed only 51 minutes of game time in the Premier League this season. However, he may get an escape route from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the Black Country outfit also interested in Phillips.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in Kalvin Phillips and Dwight McNeil is understandable. They have endured a horrendous 2025/26 campaign thus far after failing to win a single Premier League game. That has left the Black Country outfit at the bottom of the table, with Vitor Pereira making way for Rob Edwards in the managerial dugout.
With Edwards keen on turning things around at Molineux, Wolverhampton Wanderers are eager to back him in the winter transfer window. Signing an able midfielder and a winger will be their priority, with the Manchester City misfit and the Everton attacker emerging as viable targets. Meanwhile, Phillips is also a target for Everton, and a battle for his signature may be on the cards.
However, with Phillips having no future at Manchester City, a winter move is certain. Meanwhile, McNeil should also seek a January exit, with game time not coming his way at Everton. It will be interesting to see if the two Englishmen link up at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second half of the 2025/26 season.
