Newcastle United revive move for James Trafford, face Tottenham, West Ham United battle

Newcastle United are ready to revive a move for James Trafford following the goalkeeper’s struggles at Manchester City.

According to Team Talk, Newcastle United are ready to get back in the hunt for James Trafford following the young goalkeeper’s struggles at Manchester City. The Magpies remain interested in the stopper as a big option for the long-term future, but face big competition from Premier League rivals.

James Trafford was the victim of an aggressive decision by Manchester City to bolster their goalkeeping ranks. Back in the summer, Pep Guardiola’s side stared at the prospect of losing both his keepers in Ederson Moares and Stefan Ortega, which called for an overhaul of the position.

Manchester City signed former star James Trafford in a £19 million deal from Burnley, and at the start of the campaign, he looked destined to be their first choice for the foreseeable future. However, his joy barely lasted for a few games, as the club decided to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG.

The arrival of the Italian has rendered Trafford the second choice at the club, which has left the £19 million outcast frustrated. The former Burnley star is also angling for a place in the England setup for the World Cup, but without regular minutes, the prospects could be difficult.

Manchester City were not keen on loaning him in January, but now they may have softened their stance as the player could push for an exit. The likes of West Ham United and Tottenham are keen, with the latter eager to bring an upgrade for Guglielmo Vicario in the future, as Trafford could be an option. West Ham are also keen to bolster their ranks in the future.

Newcastle United to reignite James Trafford

Newcastle United were the team closest to signing Trafford in the summer before the keeper chose to re-join Manchester City. However, the Magpies are now back in the mix for the stopper, with the opportunity to get him to the club tempting the Magpies. They do face competition from the likes of West Ham and Tottenham, as their current situation in the ranks may make it difficult for Trafford to join the St James Park outfit.

Newcastle United signed Aaron Ramsdale as an alternative to Trafford back in the summer, and it remains to be seen what transpires with the former Arsenal star if the Manchester City man does arrive. While he might be interested in joining the Magpies if there are guarantees of minutes, at the moment, Nick Pope continues to be Eddie Howe’s first choice, which makes any move to St James Park questionable at best.
