AC Milan ready to begin discussions to sign Joe Gomez

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been linked with a move away from the club, and AC Milan are interested in securing his signature.

A report by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness has claimed that AC Milan are prepared to open talks to sign 28-year-old Liverpool defender Joe Gomez. The Englishman has struggled for regular opportunities at Liverpool, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly.

Joining one of the biggest clubs in Italy could be ideal for him. The Rossoneri will be able to provide him with more opportunities. The 28-year-old will not want to sit on the bench at Liverpool every week. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career. So, as iterated earlier, joining the Serie A club would be ideal for him.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops. Liverpool will not want to lose an important player like him in January. The Reds are already lacking in depth in the defensive unit, and selling the 28-year-old in January could prove to be a mistake. They should keep the player at the club until the end of the season and then sanction his departure.

Gomez would be a superb signing

Gomez has been a very useful player for Liverpool since joining the club from Charlton Athletic over a decade ago. However, the Englishman has never really established himself as the first-choice central defender at the club. Injuries have affected his career at Liverpool, but there is no doubt that he is a quality player.

The 28-year-old is capable of operating as a central defender, a fullback, as well as a defensive midfielder. His versatility will be a huge bonus for AC Milan if they manage to get the deal done. Signing an experienced player like Gomez for a reasonable amount of money could prove to be a masterstroke.

Liverpool will be hoping to fight for major trophies regularly, and they need more quality and depth in the side. Having players like Gomez could prove to be extremely valuable for the team. However, the defender needs to focus on his own career as well, and he should be playing regularly.
