Leeds United unlikely to sign Kobbie Mainoo

Leeds United are unlikely to stand a chance of landing Kobbie Mainoo, even on loan, ahead of exit rumours for the Manchester United midfielder.

According to Team Talk, Leeds United do not have a chance of landing Kobbie Mainoo in the January window. The long-standing rivalry between the Elland Road outfit and Manchester United could play a big role in this chase, with Napoli seen as the front-runners for the frustrated Manchester United first-team ace.

Kobbie Mainoo has been left frustrated by his situation at Manchester United this season, with the promising midfielder yet to make a single start in the Premier League. The frustrated Manchester United first-team ace’s only start came in the disappointing defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, as he continues to ponder his immediate future.

Mainoo handed in a transfer request at the back end of the summer window to leave on loan, but Manchester United were firm in dismissing the plea. The Red Devils did not want to lose a key star and weaken their midfield, but things have not improved for Mainoo under Ruben Amorim.

The frustrated Manchester United first-team ace is already pondering a winter exit, probably again on loan as he is desperate to play regularly and stand a chance to make the England World Cup squad. For that, he needs regular minutes under his belt, and a change of scenery might be the only way to achieve that.

Leeds United were linked with a move for Mainoo, as Daniel Farke could dip into the market for reinforcements after a downfall in their form. The Elland Road outfit are steadily dropping near the relegation zone, as a new addition such as Mainoo would benefit them largely in the quest to move up the table.

No Leeds United move for Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo is not expected to make the switch to Leeds United given the club’s rivalry with Manchester United. Such a transfer, even on loan, will not go well with the Old Trafford crowd, while Mainoo would want a different idea of a team, as Napoli are seen as the current favourites to get the frustrated Manchester United first-team ace.

Napoli hold an edge in the race, as they were planning to get him on board in the latter stages of the summer window. Antonio Conte remains eager to add to his midfield and likes the idea of Mainoo in his squad, although, ahead of January, only a loan deal might be possible.
