Liverpool could make move for Sven Botman, face Chelsea battle

Liverpool are considering a move for Sven Botman in January, with Chelsea also interested, but Newcastle United are eager to resist offers.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are reportedly keen to make a move for Sven Botman ahead of January with the idea of improving their defensive setup. Chelsea are also interested in the 25-year-old, but Newcastle United are keen to keep hold of the Dutchman for the long run.

Liverpool and Chelsea are among the top teams eager to bring in a new centre-back ahead of the January window. Both teams are currently a bit short at the back, as they could angle a move for a new star to help their cause in the second half of the season, when the pressure will be high as games come in thick and fast.

Liverpool failed with a deadline-day move for Marc Guehi, and it appears they are the front-runners for the defender. However, the chances of landing the Crystal Palace star in January seem remote, as the centre-back is widely expected to move on a free transfer next summer.

However, Arne Slot might look into the market for a defender to be signed in January to help shore up the backline. The Liverpool boss would want the ability to rotate his central defensive options in the second half of the season, as there’s too much risk to place the entire burden on the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Sven Botman, with the Newcastle United defender seen as an ideal addition to the squad for the present and long-term future. He’s also the left-footed option the team currently lacks and a profile Slot has been keen to add for some time now.

Chelsea to battle Liverpool; Newcastle United not keen on a sale

Chelsea have also entered the race for Botman, as they are in the market for a new centre-back in January. They did lose Levi Colwill at the start of the campaign to a season-ending ACL injury, and they certainly need to replace him as their current options are not proving to be good enough to achieve the main objectives so far, which could see them make a move for the Newcastle United defender.

As Liverpool and Chelsea are showing big interest, Newcastle United are eager to keep hold of the defender and are planning to offer him a new deal. The Magpies are under some level of pressure with the Dutchman’s future, as his current deal does expire in 2027, which does allow suitors a sniff at signing him, even in January.
