Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham vying for Joao Gomes
Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are all keen on signing Wolves midfield mainstay Joao Gomes.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Joao Gomes could be heading to a bigger club, as Wolves continue to struggle in the Premier League. Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are all believed to be interested in the Brazilian midfielder.
Wolves find themselves at the bottom of the points table as they are yet to win a game. Their current form has resulted in a lot of speculation about the future of Gomes. They might struggle to keep hold of the 24-year-old if they end up getting relegated.
Meanwhile, if they continue to perform in a similar fashion until the end of the year, big clubs might even try to lure him away during the winter window. While Wolves are unlikely to sanction a mid-season sale, they might not be able to stand in his way next summer.
Manchester United and Tottenham have been keeping tabs on him, while Aston Villa and Liverpool have also been linked with the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder.
Despite Wolves’ struggle in the Premier League, Gomes has still managed to put in some consistent performances. He has made quite a name for himself with his ability to impact the game on both ends of the pitch.
Gomes is set to join a bigger club in England?
He has been one of their standout performers so far this season. The Brazilian international is second at the club for most tackles per match (2.5) and third in interceptions per match (1) and successful dribbles (0.6). These numbers suggest he could be a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.
The Portuguese manager prefers having two central midfielders in his XI; players who can contribute at both ends of the pitch while providing a strong defensive base, and Gomes certainly fits the bill. Meanwhile, Thomas Frank is not satisfied with his current options, and the Brazilian could be considered an upgrade on them.
Arne Slot is also looking to add more competition in the holding role, and a move to the defending champions could certainly tempt the midfielder. As for Unai Emery, he is believed to be a huge admirer of Gomes and would certainly welcome a proven Premier League star into his squad.
