Official | Captain Maximilian Arnold extends ‘with full conviction’ at struggling Wolfsburg
Despite the fact that his crisis-enveloped Bundesliga club may be in line for a major administrative shake-up, VfL Wolfsburg squad captain Maximilian Arnold has opted to extend his contract. The Dresden-native has spent all 15 of his professional seasons with Germany’s green company team, making 383 German top flight appearances.
The 31-year-old inherited the captain’s armband from Joshua Guilavogui in July 2022. Negotiations to extend Arnold’s expiring contract had been ongoing for some time. Wolfsburg clearly timed the announcement as a means of boosting morale ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Bundesliga fixture against Werder Bremen. Arnold has extended for another two years.
“Wolfsburg and VfL have been my sporting home for many years,” Arnold noted in a club-released statement. “I also feel incredibly comfortable here with my family. I am convinced of the path the club has taken and want to continue to take responsibility for the team, the club and our fans. That’s why it was clear to me: I will stay at VfL with full conviction.”
