Inter Milan will reportedly compete with Liverpool in the race to sign 28-year-old English international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet L’Interista, Ezri Konsa is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a centre-back next year. So, the 28-year-old Aston Villa defender has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.

The Englishman is also a target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit considering him as an alternative to Marc Guehi, who has become an in-demand defender in the market. Meanwhile, Aston Villa will demand around €35 million to part ways with Konsa.

Ezri Konsa and his rise at Aston Villa

Ezri Konsa has established himself as one of the most dependable centre-backs in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa from Brentford in a deal worth €13 million in July 2019. The London native spent his formative years and graduated from the youth division at Charlton Athletic. However, the 28-year-old has risen in prominence at Aston Villa.

The English international has made 250 appearances thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with ten goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Konsa’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Liverpool and Inter Milan are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Liverpool’s interest in Ezri Konsa makes sense. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back, as Ibrahima Konate has entered the final 12 months of his contract and has yet to commit his future to the Merseyside club. Additionally, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career. So, Liverpool must sign a new centre-back, and Konsa is a viable target.

As for Inter Milan, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are on the wrong side of 30, and the Serie A giants need a long-term replacement for the duo. Aston Villa’s asking price of €35 million makes Konsa an attractive target, as he can provide decent value for that valuation. However, recent reports have claimed that the West Midlands club will not entertain bids to part ways with the 28-year-old English international.
