Chelsea’s Mamadou Sarr and PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye opt to represent Senegal over France
Despite representing France at youth level Mamadou Sarr (20) and Ibrahim Mbaye (17) have both opted to represent Senegal at senior international level, according to a report from RMC Sport.
Sarr, who joined Chelsea last season but who is currently on loan at partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace, is having a strong season back in Ligue 1. He has represented Les Bleus up to U20 level, but he will now represent Senegal. RMC Sport understands that the Chelsea centre-back will be called up by Pape Thiaw for the upcoming international break. The nation have already secured their place in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbaye has made the same decision. Like Sarr, he too has represented France up to U20 level, but the winger will now also play his senior football for Senegal. Mbaye has made 16 appearances for formative club PSG this season, benefiting from the European champions’ ongoing injury crisis.
