Chelsea make approach for Milton Delgado, competition intense
Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Argentine midfielder Milton Delgado from Boca Juniors, with the 2005-born prospect expected to move to Europe soon.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Milton Delgado is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder next year. So, the 20-year-old Boca Juniors prospect has emerged as a target for the West London club.
The 2024/25 FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League winners are not alone in the race to sign the 2005-born midfielder, as Brighton & Hove Albion, SL Benfica, FC Koln, FC Porto, and Sevilla are also keen on securing his services. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s move has begun, as they have established contact over a possible move.
Who is Milton Delgado?
Milton Delgado is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The 20-year-old may have a bright future with his national side, as Lionel Scaloni’s squad has a dearth of options in the midfield unit beyond the first-choice options. The Rafael Castillo native spent his formative years in Argentina and graduated from the youth division at Boca Juniors.
Delgado has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for Boca Juniors while chipping in with one assist. Meanwhile, the Argentine midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Premier League outfits, in particular, have set their sights on him, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
London calling?
Chelsea’s interest in Milton Delgado is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a holding midfielder, even though Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been exceptional for the West London outfit. With Romeo Lavia struggling with fitness issues throughout his spell with Chelsea, they can do with another holding midfielder.
Several candidates, including Eduardo Camavinga, have thus emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Delgado also a viable target. The Premier League giants have already initiated their move to sign the 2005-born midfield prospect by establishing contact over a possible deal.
However, Chelsea will not be alone in the race to sign Delgao, as Brighton & Hove Albion, SL Benfica, FC Koln, FC Porto, and Sevilla are also keen on securing his services. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 20-year-old Argentine midfielder.
