Aston Villa in transfer tussle to sign Ansu Fati
Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Spanish international Ansu Fati from Barcelona if he does not complete a permanent move to AS Monaco.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ansu Fati is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker next summer. So, the Spaniard has emerged as a target for the West Midlands club amid his resurgence at AS Monaco after arriving on loan from Barcelona.
Ansu Fati and his resurgence
Ansu Fati has resurrected his stuttering fortunes since joining AS Monaco on loan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Bissau native’s stock plummeted in the last half a decade after struggling with fitness issues, and he could not return to his best during a stint with Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2023/24 season.
The struggles escalated last season, as he could not receive much game time after returning to Barcelona. So, the Blaugrana wanted to part ways with Fati in the summer transfer window, and AS Monaco rescued him in July. The Spanish attacker has been exceptional thus far, chipping in with six goals in ten appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, the young winger’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. A return to the Premier League may be on the cards for the Spaniard, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into next summer’s transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Ansu Fati is understandable. The Villans have been inconsistent in the final third this season, as Ollie Watkins has had to shoulder most of the goalscoring burden. Additionally, Aston Villa’s creativity in the advanced areas has not been up to the required standards.
Several candidates, including Mason Greenwood, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Fati also a viable target. However, the West Midlands outfit will not be the only Premier League club vying for the Spaniard’s signature, as he is also a target for Sunderland. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked the Barcelona misfit with Crystal Palace, Everton, and Newcastle United.
Fati’s loan deal at AS Monaco has a purchase option, and there is a chance that he may not complete a permanent move to the Ligue 1 club. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can have the opportunity to sign the resurgent 23-year-old Spanish winger from Barcelona next summer.
