Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich run rule over Givairo Read

Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing 19-year-old Dutch right-back Givairo Read from Feyenoord.

According to a report by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are keen on Givairo Read. The three European bigwigs have sent officials to scout the Feyenoord full-back prodigy, and the 19-year-old has responded to the speculation surrounding him. He said, “But it doesn’t distract me, you know. I’m comfortable at Feyenoord, and my development here is the only thing on my mind.”

Givairo Read and his rising stock

Givairo Read is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The Amsterdam native has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland, starting his youth career with Zeeburgia and spending half a decade with FC Volendam before graduating from the youth division at Feyenoord.

The 19-year-old had to wait until February 2024 to make his senior bow for Feyenoord, but he has not looked back since then. Read has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for the Eredivisie outfit while chipping in with four goals and 11 assists. Meanwhile, the Dutchman’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Arsenal’s interest in the versatile Dutch full-back is perplexing. While Mikel Arteta does not have any recognised full-backs in his squad, he has efficiently used centre-backs as full-backs. Nevertheless, Read is a target for Arsenal, with the North London club sending an official to scout him.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Givairo Read is understandable. The Citizens have only Rico Lewis as a recognised right-back, but the young Englishman has not been consistent enough for the team. Instead, Pep Guardiola has used Matheus Nunes as a right-back. So, Manchester City can do with a right-back, with Read emerging as a viable target.

As for Bayern Munich, Sacha Boey is the only recognised right-back in Vincent Kompany’s squad. However, the Frenchman has struggled to make his mark at the Bavarian club, with Kompany often using Konrad Laimer as a right-back. So, Read is an option worth considering for Bayern Munich.

With Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich sending officials to scout the 19-year-old Dutchman, a move may be on the cards next year. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Read.
