Manchester United open talks over £80 million sponsorship deal
Manchester United and DXC Technology are yet to consider renewing their sponsorship agreement, with the current £80 million due to run its course.
According to TBR, Manchester United could be exploring the market for a new sleeve sponsor as their existing £80 million deal with DXC Technology is set to run its course next summer. The Red Devils have to find a solution to fill the void if the two parties cannot find a fresh agreement, as the club may not want to leave behind considerable revenues.
There were some tough questions asked of Manchester United’s revenues back in the summer after they missed out on European football altogether. The loss to Tottenham in the Europa League Final meant the Red Devils missed out on qualifying for the lucrative Champions League, which a club of their stature should play every season.
Despite the lost revenue due to not competing, Manchester United’s commercial capacity helped shield in shielding from a blow that any other club would have felt hard. There have been plenty of downfalls in their commercial revenues, which, coupled with their overall earnings, the club may have done much better compared to what they have.
Manchester Untid have some of the lucrative commercial deals in the Premier League, and no other club comes close to their prowess. There’s plenty of future scope for them to enter new streams with terms of sponsorships, as the brand new Carrington training ground is also up for bids with regards to naming rights, and now, there could be a space in the sleeve sponsorship being explored.
Meanwhile, current sleeve sponsors DXC Technology have a £80 million deal in place until the end of the current season, which is valued at £20 million per year, signed before the 2022-23 season. There are no updates on whether the two parties are in talks to renew the agreement, as there’s a chance they could part ways.
DXC Technology is unlikely to renew
Going by market updates, DXC Technology and their share prices have plummeted, and it would be a surprise if they are to renew their deal with Manchester United. The club will be looking at an increased valuation for the space, something the incumbents may not want to pursue.
However, the club could be in talks in the market for a new sponsor for their sleeve, which could potentially be worth more than the £80 million deal that DXC Technology had with Manchester United. There’s every chance the two parties reconvene over fresh terms, but at this moment it looks unlikely.
