Borussia Mönchengladbach plan to sell 5 players this winter – Joe Scally and Luca Netz included

Bild reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach plan to sell five players this winter, before reinvesting the money elsewhere.

Gladbach are currently last in the Bundesliga without a win. After the arrival of Rouven Schröder, they can now start planning for the winter window as they look to retain their Bundesliga status.

Five players on the sell list for January: Jonas Omlin, Joe Scally, Luca Netz, Marvin Friedrich and Grant-Leon Ranos.

Omlin is one of the higher earners at Borussia Park, and the departures in the summer saw them reduce their wage bill, and they want to continue this with the Swiss keeper, as he currently earns €3m. Since joining as Yann Sommer’s replacement in 2023, Omlin has been far too injury-prone and has lost his place as number one to Mortiz Nicolas.

USA international Joe Scally has lost his place in the starting 11, and over the past two years, he has struggled to develop and has also lost his place in the USMNT.

Netz’s contract in the Niederrhein expires in the summer, and he has also lost his place in the starting 11 to fellow Hertha Berlin product Lukas Ullrich.

While Marvin Friedrich and Grant-Leon Ranos are in the last years of their contracts, this will be the last chance to sell them.

Oscar Fraulo is slightly different; the 21-year-old could be given a contract extension as he has begun to be integrated into the first team in recent weeks after several seasons out on loan.

Gladbach’s winter incomings:

Die Fohlen’s aims for the winter window are to bring in a centre-back, a right-back and potentially even a striker.
