Thomas Frank optimistic of Micky van de Ven stay amid Real Madrid links

Thomas Frank has no concerns about the long-term future of Micky van de Ven amid the 24-year-old Dutch defender’s links with Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s EFL Cup clash with Newcastle United, as relayed by Sky Sports, Thomas Frank commented on the recent speculation surrounding Micky van de Ven. Widespread reports have linked the Dutch defender with Real Madrid. However, the Tottenham manager is relaxed about the in-form centre-back’s long-term future at the North London club.

Discussing the Dutchman, Frank said, “Yeah, very happy with Micky. I think he has been brilliant for the club since he signed and he has taken some steps up this season. He actually defends even better. He is still very good on the ball, he added the goals and the headed goals, which I am very happy with. He’s a threat from set-pieces.”

“Character and leadership also growing and as far as I know, we have a good contract with him but definitely a player I see with a big future at the club. I think he is happy here, that is very important and we’re happy with him, so let’s see what happens in the future. The most important thing is it looks like he really enjoys his football, he really enjoys his time here, I am very happy with him, everyone is really happy, so that’s a good sign.”

Micky van de Ven and his time at Tottenham so far

Micky van de Ven has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders since joining Tottenham Hotspur from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023. The Wormer native spent his formative years in the Netherlands, but he rose in prominence during his spell in the Bundesliga. That earned him a move to Tottenham, and the 24-year-old has not looked back since then.

The Dutch defender has made over 50 appearances thus far for Tottenham while chipping in with eight goals and two assists. Meanwhile, van de Ven’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Real Madrid will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.

Real Madrid move on the horizon?

Micky van de Ven has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30. Additionally, Eder Militao has recovered from two long-term knee injuries in as many seasons, leaving his long-term fitness situation uncertain.

Several candidates have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with van de Ven also a viable target. Other high-profile clubs are also keen on the Tottenham defender, with recent reports linking the 24-year-old Dutchman with Chelsea and Liverpool. However, with Thomas Frank relaxed about the Netherlands international’s future, an exit may not be on the cards.
