West Ham United front-runners to sign Joshua Zirkzee
West Ham United are leading the race for the signature of Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is pushing for a January exit.
Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Manchester United hasn’t really worked out, and the Dutch international now seems keen on parting ways with the Premier League giants. According to a report from the Daily Star, West Ham United are interested in signing the United outcast as they look to reinforce their attack.
Zirkzee made a name for himself while playing for Bologna, and on the back of his impressive rise, the Red Devils forked out £36 million to add him to their squad in the summer of 2024. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t worked out for both parties as the Dutch forward has failed to establish himself as a key figure in the team.
During his debut campaign, he was involved in 49 matches across competitions, but he could only manage seven goals. Things seem to have gone from bad to worse for him as he has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko in the summer.
The 24-year-old has only been involved in four games this season, and he has been on the pitch for just 82 minutes. Ruben Amorim has made it quite clear that Zirkzee is not an important part of his plans moving forward.
While his contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2029, the former Bayern Munich academy star could end up leaving them as early as January. With the World Cup coming up, Zirkzee is desperate to have regular first-team minutes to stay in contention for a place in the Dutch squad.
Zirkzee set to leave Old Trafford
He is ready to ask for a move away in the winter window, and United are unlikely to stand in his way, as he is no longer an integral part of Amorim’s plans. While the Manchester-based giants will prefer a straightforward transfer, they are open to a potential loan deal with a buy option.
West Ham United have emerged as a potential destination for the 24-year-old. The Hammers seek more quality in the final third, with Niclas Fullkrug and Callum Wilson both on the wrong side of 30.
Zirkzee could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad. With him ready to push for a move away, United could strike a bargain deal for him in January. The Hammers are believed to be leading the race at this stage, and it is certainly one to keep an eye on.
