Manchester City line up €60 million move for Morten Hjulmand
Manchester City are gearing up to make a €60 million bid to beat Manchester United and Tottenham to the signature of Morten Hjulmand.
Morten Hjulmand has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances for Sporting CP. On the back of his impressive work, the Danish international now finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester City are keen on acquiring his services as Pep Guardiola looks to add more quality to his midfield. The Premier League giants are willing to fork out around €60 million to prise him away from Sporting CP, amidst interest from rivals Manchester United and Tottenham.
Ruben Amorim signed Hjulmand at the Portuguese club back in 2023 after two impressive seasons at Lecce in Italy. The Danish international has only gone from strength to strength since. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best in his position.
The 26-year-old prefers playing in a holding role, but he is equally effective in an advanced role. He has a strong physical presence and is great with ball recovery as well as positional play. In simple terms, Hjulmand is a complete midfielder.
Premier League trio are after Hjulmand
His technical abilities, along with his consistency, are major reasons why multiple top clubs in England are looking to sign him in the near future. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are set to push hard for his signature as they look for more quality in the centre of the park.
They are considering making an offer of around €60 million to prise him away from Sporting. Guardiola feels the 26-year-old has all the qualities to fit into his system. His versatility could come in handy as he can feature as a defensive midfielder as well as in a double pivot.
Hjulmand has qualities similar to Rodri. City rate him very highly, and they are looking to beat Manchester United and Tottenham to his signature. Amorim is a massive admirer of the Danish midfielder and wants to reunite with him at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Thomas Frank isn’t pleased with the performances of his current midfielders. He wants an upgrade in the centre of the park and feels Hjulmand can help their cause. Both clubs have already enquired about the Danish international.
With three Premier League giants ready to battle for his signature, Sporting will certainly struggle to hold onto him beyond 2026.
