Nico Schlotterbeck to make decision on Borussia Dortmund future in the new year – BVB ready to lose him on a free in 2027

Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck will make a decision on his future in the new year.

Dortmund have placed a contract offer on the table for the defender, but he has stalled and will wait until the new year before he makes his decision.

The 25-year-old wants to see the club show that they are competing for titles. While Dortmund want to rely on the emotional side, such as the trust they are placing in him when it comes to the team and the ties his family have to the club – something he may not get at a club like Bayern Munich.

On top of this, Schlotterbeck has already worn the captain’s armband at times and is seen as the future leader of the club.

Dortmund’s plan with Schlotterbeck:

BVB already have a plan in place if a contract cannot be agreed. Die Schwarzgelben will not cash in on Schlotterbeck in the summer and will instead risk losing him on a free transfer once his deal expires in 2027.
