Maghnes Akliouche comments on future amid Tottenham links

Maghnes Akliouche has insisted that he remains focused on succeeding for AS Monaco while suggesting he is open to a future move to the Premier League.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League tie with Tottenham Hotspur, as relayed by Get French Football News, Maghnes Akliouche commented on his links with Tottenham Hotspur. However, the 23-year-old AS Monaco attacking sensation insisted that his focus from AS Monaco has not shifted, although he is open to a future move to the Premier League.

The French international said, “It is always flattering to have these kinds of links. But I am a Monaco player and tomorrow, we will be playing against Tottenham Hotspur, and I will give it my all. A future move to the Premier League? Why not, but what is important is tomorrow’s match.”

Maghnes Akliouche and his career so far

Maghnes Akliouche has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at AS Monaco. The Tremblay-en-France native spent his formative years in France and graduated from the youth division at AS Monaco. The 23-year-old broke into the first-team squad at the Monegasque outfit in the 2021/22 season but enjoyed his breakthrough in the 2023/24 campaign.

Akliouche has made over 100 appearances thus far for AS Monaco while chipping in with 18 goals and 18 assists. Meanwhile, the French playmaker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, have been keen on signing him for a long time, with Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur explored a summer move for Maghnes Akliouche, but a deal failed to materialise. The continued interest makes sense, as the Lilywhites are still scouring the market for a versatile playmaker after losing James Maddison to a long-term knee injury before the season began. Additionally, Dejan Kulusevski is on the sidelines. So, Thomas Frank wants a creative solution from the market.

So, Akliouche remains on Tottenham’s wishlist, with the North London club recently scouting the 23-year-old Frenchman and other AS Monaco players. With the youngster reportedly open to a future move to the Premier League, a deal may materialise.

However, it is unclear how much AS Monaco will demand to part ways with Akliouche when Tottenham and other suitors approach the Ligue 1 outfit for a move.
