Aston Villa in transfer tussle to sign Luis Milla

Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 31-year-old Spanish midfield general Luis Milla from La Liga club Getafe in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Luis Milla is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on bolstering their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old Getafe mainstay has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.

However, Aston Villa will not be alone in the race to sign the Spaniard, with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid also vying for the experienced midfielder’s signature. Meanwhile, Getafe will demand around €30 million to part ways with Milla in the winter transfer window.

Luis Milla and his career so far

Luis Milla has established himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in La Liga since joining Getafe from Granada in July 2022. A native of Madrid, the 31-year-old spent his formative years in his home city and graduated from the youth division at Atletico Madrid. However, he rose in prominence after moving to Granada half a decade ago.

As for his latest stint, Milla has made over 100 appearances thus far for Getafe while chipping in with two goals and 15 assists. Meanwhile, the experienced Spanish midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Aston Villa will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Luis Milla is somewhat surprising. However, the Villans are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window amid Youri Tielemans’s links with overseas clubs. Additionally, Ross Barkley’s long-term future at Aston Villa is uncertain after struggling with fitness issues in the last 12 months.

Several candidates, including Amadou Haidara, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Milla also a viable target. However, the West Midlands outfit will face stiff competition from La Liga giants for the 31-year-old Spaniard’s signature, with Los Rojiblancos keen on re-signing him.

Meanwhile, Getafe will demand around €30 million to part ways with Milla in the winter transfer window. Considering the Spanish midfielder will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, a price tag worth €30 million is fair and just. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa will meet Getafe’s valuation to sign Milla in the coming weeks.
